How to make a GST invoice here

  1. Your business: name, address and GSTIN. Your state is read from the GSTIN.
  2. Bill to: the buyer's name, address and GSTIN. Leave the GSTIN empty for an unregistered buyer. The GSTIN is checked as you type, so a mistyped character shows up at once.
  3. Invoice: number, date and place of supply. The place of supply decides the tax: same state as yours gives CGST + SGST, another state gives IGST.
  4. Items: description, HSN or SAC, quantity, unit, rate, any discount and the GST rate. Tax is worked out per line and added up, the way GST returns expect.
  5. Press Print or save as PDF and pick “Save as PDF” in the print window, or print on paper.

Your entries are kept as a draft in this browser only, so you can close the page and come back. Nothing is sent to our servers; Clear form deletes the draft.

How the tax is worked out

Each line's value is quantity × rate, rounded to the paisa, less the line discount: that is the taxable value. Tax is worked out on each line and rounded to the paisa. Within one state, CGST and SGST are each half the GST rate and rounded separately; between states the full rate is IGST. The invoice total is the sum of the lines, rounded to the nearest rupee if you keep round-off on. Under reverse charge the tax is shown but left out of what the buyer pays you. This is the same calculation Moharbill uses for real bills.

What Rule 46 requires on a tax invoice

Rule 46 of the CGST Rules lists what a tax invoice must show. The generator asks for each one and lists anything missing before you print:

  • Supplier's name, address and GSTIN; a serial number of up to 16 characters (letters, digits, - and /), unique in the financial year; the date.
  • Recipient's name, address and GSTIN if registered. For an unregistered recipient and a value of ₹50,000 or more, also the delivery address and the state name and code.
  • HSN or SAC code, description, quantity and unit, total value, taxable value after discount.
  • Rate and amount of CGST, SGST/UTGST, IGST and cess; place of supply with the state name for inter-state supplies; delivery address if different.
  • Whether tax is payable on reverse charge, and the signature of the supplier or an authorised signatory.

See the GST invoice format page for each field with its clause.

When you need more than a free generator

Businesses with aggregate turnover above ₹5 crore must report B2B invoices on the e-invoice system (IRP) and print the IRN and QR code; an invoice made here has no IRN. Goods invoices are issued in three copies (Rule 48). Moharbill does all of this: numbering that never repeats, IRN and e-way bill in one step, payment reminders on WhatsApp and GSTR-1 ready from your bills.

Rules as read on 17-10-2026. Check with your CA before relying on them for a filing.

FAQ

Questions about making GST invoices

Not answered here? Visit the help centre.

Is this GST invoice generator really free?

Yes. There is no sign-in and no watermark. It runs in your browser; print or save as many invoices as you need.

Is an invoice made here valid under GST?

If it carries every Rule 46 field (the checker lists anything missing), is numbered in your own series and is signed, it meets the format rule. If your turnover needs e-invoicing, you must also get an IRN for B2B invoices, which this page doesn't do.

How do I save the invoice as PDF?

Press Print or save as PDF, then choose “Save as PDF” (or “Microsoft Print to PDF”) as the printer. Keep margins at Default and turn on background graphics.

When is IGST charged instead of CGST and SGST?

When your state (from your GSTIN) and the place of supply are different. Within the same state the tax is split equally into CGST and SGST (or UTGST).

Is my data stored anywhere?

Only in your own browser, as a draft, so you can come back to it. Nothing is sent to our servers. Use Clear form on a shared computer.

Can I add my logo and bank details?

Add bank details and terms in the notes. Logos, saved parties, items and numbering series are in Moharbill's free plan.
