What's hard in textile wholesale

Metres, slabs and long credit

The right HSN and rate per line

Fabric, sarees and garments sit in different HSN chapters, and garments change rate with the price per piece. Each item carries its own HSN and rate, so the bill is right without a lookup.

Credit that runs for months

Retailers buy on long credit, often through a broker. Credit days and limits per party, an A–E grade from how they actually pay, and reminders in their language keep the book honest.

Bales that cross state lines

Bales go to retailers in other states by transport. The e-way bill is made from the IRN, and the list shows what expires today.

GST on cloth: what changes from line to line

A textile bill is rarely one rate. Fabric, sarees, dress material and readymade garments can sit on the same bill with different HSN chapters, and for garments the GST rate depends on the price of each piece. Keeping the HSN and rate on the item, not in the billing clerk's memory, is what keeps GSTR-1 clean.

Common textile HSN chapters and GST rates
What you sellHSN chapterGST rate (from 22-09-2025)
Cotton woven fabric525% Check with CA
Synthetic filament fabric, polyester sarees545% Check with CA
Man-made staple fibre fabric (viscose, rayon)555% Check with CA
Readymade garments, up to ₹2,500 a piece61, 625%
Readymade garments, above ₹2,500 a piece61, 6218%

For garments, make two items when one design is sold on both sides of ₹2,500, so each line carries the right rate. Above ₹5 crore turnover the HSN must have 6 digits on every bill; the HSN code finder helps when you set up items.

Credit, brokers and returns

Textile credit is long and personal. Moharbill gives each party credit days and a limit, grades them A to E from how they actually pay, and sends reminders with a payment link in their language. When goods come back, raise a credit note against the original bill; it reaches GSTR-1 by itself, and a credit note for the year must be issued by 30 November of the next year.

Not in Moharbill yet: delivery challans for job work, broker commission accounting and bale-wise packing slips. If these run your day, keep your current system alongside for them.

FAQ

Questions from textile wholesalers

What GST rate applies to fabric and garments?

Most fabrics are at 5%. From 22 September 2025, apparel priced up to ₹2,500 a piece is at 5% and above ₹2,500 at 18%. Set the rate on each item, and check the rate for your products with your CA.

Can I bill fabric by the metre?

Yes. Give the item the unit metres (MTR); quantities and rates per metre print on the bill and the e-invoice carries the right unit.

Can I track what each retailer owes through a broker?

Each bill is in the retailer's ledger with credit days and a limit. The broker can be noted on the party; broker commission accounting is not in Moharbill.

Does Moharbill make job-work challans?

Not yet. Delivery challans for goods sent to dyeing, printing or embroidery job workers are not in Moharbill; keep them in your current system for now.

Does my CA need to pay?

No. Every plan includes a free CA seat.
